Cleaning carpets can be such a lengthy task when you don’t know the correct products to use and don’t get the results you hoped for. That’s why we have compiled a list of five helpful tips you can do using every-day household items to keep your carpets clean!

1. Eliminating Pet Hair using a Squeegee

Pet hair can be notoriously difficult using a Vacuum cleaner, and quite a tedious task to ensure every last bit of hair has been collected. That’s why we highly recommend using a Squeegee.

Squeegee’s are mainly used for cleaning windows, but its design is made to dislodge gunk that form thin layers and stick to a surface – exactly like pet hair on a short-hair carpet. Water the squeegee and apply onto your surface, just like you would on a window.

2. Always Blot Wine Stains Away

It’s an instinct to rub dirt away. However with carpets, rubbing can unfortunately lead to spreading. There’s also a high chance you might work the stain into the fabric which may also cause permanent damage to your carpet. That’s why it is vital you blot the stain away, which will then lead to the liquid being absorbed into your cloth or sponge.

3. Removing Gum from Carpets

Gum is never a good thing to wind up on any carpet, but although it seems impossible to get gum removed, it doesn’t mean it is. The main problem is when the gum is still soft, it stretches and removing it can become a difficult task, and you may cause more damage than results.

To remove a gum properly, you need to freeze it. An ice cube over the gum (or any gooey product) for half a minute should be enough to freeze it and allow you to scrape it off, with very limited damage to your carpet.

4. Baking Soda Has Its Advantages

Applying baking soda to your carpets will allow you to create your own light freshener, perfect for when you’re having guests over. To do this you’ll need a bottle of essential oil and a 16-ounce box of baking soda. Add around 10 to 20 drops depending on how strong you want the scent to be. Sprinkle the mixture onto your carpet and then vacuum after 5-10 minutes.

5. Keep Your Carpets Clean with Shoe Caps

Having people come over doing work on your property? And you don’t want them to dirty your property with their shoes? Using a shoe cap is one of the easiest, cheapest and simplest ways to minimise dirt landing onto your carpets – without having to politely ask people to take their shoes off.
